How many pets are you allowed in a household?

Cassie asked:

My mother lives in Illinois and she was wondering how many pets can she have in her household. I personally think it is 5. I tried looking it up on the internet but couldnt find a site that tells me anything. Does anyone know what the limit is in illinois?

I’m pretty sure that there isn’t a limit on domesticated pets under the conditions that all of them are properly cared for in means to the owners ability. Meaning, as long as she can care for and feed them it doesn’t matter. Call the human society maybe? They should know if there is a state law on house hold pets.

As many as you can take adequate care of

It’s a city ordinance, not a state one, so check with your city clerk (the keeper of records) or just phone a vet and ask, they know.

In our city it’s 3 but nobody really checks. If you’re not annoying the neighbors with your animals it’s not an issue.

The limit is decided by each city. Depending on how big the city is you can look this up in the city charter on their website.

It all depends on just where you live. Houses, apartments, condos, townhomes, trailer parks and certain residential areas could have their by-laws and restrictions on the number of pets, the kind, and the size. You would have to check with the local municipal office of where you live, or the Animal Proctections people and they’ll tell you. They’ll also tell you if you have to have them licenced, or not.
